Winesap apple variety originated in New Jersey prior 1800, the Winesap apple has become beloved throughout the South. The Winesap apple tree gets its name from its spicy, wine-like flavor and aroma. The Winesap Original apples are top quality, multi-purpose fruit noted for the crisp, very juicy yellow flesh and its blend of sugar with high tartness. The Winesap has deep red fruit of medium size, smaller than StaymanWinesap. A heavy producer that is adapted to a wide range of soils and climates. Displays resistance to cedar apple rust and fireblight. Consider Grimes Golden, Liberty and/or White Pearmain for pollination. Triploid. Our trees range in height from 4-8 ft. in our field and trimmed to 4 to 5 ft. when shipped. Our young two year trees are most often feathered (side limbs). The trees diameter (caliper) is often 1/2 to 3/4 inch; *As noted by University of California Scientists and other qualified professionals the most successful trees often have caliper from 1/2" to 5/8" and usually establish faster than smaller and larger planting stock. .
