Shipping Season and Costs
Shipping Season
Our shipping season begins in the second week of January, later if rain slows our digging, and continues through May. If you live in a region where the ground isn’t frozen, the trees should be planted at the earliest available ship date. Many folks confuse “garden planting” with bareroot planting. Bareroot trees must be planted while they are dormant and long before the last frost date for your area.
Please note: Snow or frost will not hurt a dormant tree. For most of USDA Zones 3-5, this means planting in late March/early April while there is still sufficient moisture in the soil. Early planting can often make the difference in the first year between a vigorous tree and one that struggles for survival. It allows the tree to send out initial roots months before bud break. If your soil is too sloppy or frozen when the trees arrive, “heel” the trees in (cover the roots) with moist soil or sand in a shady place to protect the roots from freezing until your ground thaws/dries sufficiently. In areas where the ground is frozen solid during the winter, notify us when the order is placed and we will place your order in cold storage for mid March or early April shipping date. No cancellations are allowed once in cold storage.
We ship our trees out January to the beginning of May. Our trees are packaged in a new, cardboard box with the roots tucked in a sturdy plastic bag with moist shredded paper inside tightly bound with string. This will insure the trees roots will remain sufficiently moist upon arrival to your home. We also include the appropriate planting instructions for the trees, grapes or berries. Please advise immediately if your package arrives damaged.
Shipping Charges
NOTE: All orders are shipped using UPS Ground. We only ship within the U.S.
Shipping is billed at cost, and the shipping price shown at checkout reflects actual UPS Ground rates. The shipping total also includes handling, which covers the actual cost of the materials and labor required to prepare your trees for shipment, including boxes, bags, shavings, staples, tape, and other packing supplies.
Shipping costs have continued to rise and we are a small nursery, which means we don't receive the incentives from UPS like the large box stores We hope to simply to recover the actual cost of packing and shipping your order: we don't make money on shipping, but we can't afford to lose money on it either. Since we are charged dimensional weight on our boxes, as well as an "oversized" handling fee, it is always more cost effective to order more than a few trees since we are billed the same amount from UPS for 10 trees as we are for 1 tree.
***Please note that we ship orders of one to three trees in a 48-inch box. These trees have already been professionally pruned prior to shipping so they are ready to plant upon arrival.
All states in contiguous US: please add trees to your cart to view your shipping cost directly generated by UPS
Hawaii & Alaska: $140.00 minimum, depending on order total
Any order over $2000.00 will receive Free Shipping (HI & AK excluded)
Pickup Fruit Trees
Pick-up option: Select pick-up option on shopping cart page lower right corner. ***only available during appointed weekends in January and February.
Limited Warranty
Warranty: Our trees are guaranteed to arrive alive and healthy. They will leaf out and grow if planted in accordance with our planting instructions. ***If we are notified by July 1st of the same year in which you received the tree*** we will replace any tree that fails to grow by issuing a store credit for the price you paid for the tree minus the shipping cost (customer is responsible for shipping and handling). Beyond July 1st, there are too many variables in nature that we cannot control (extreme weather, rodent damage, disease, soil nutrient deficiencies, individual tree care, etc) that can contribute to demise. We may request the tree be returned to us for inspection or an email with illustrative photos. We reserve the right to not re-issue credit for replacement of already replaced trees. Any tree which proves to be a different variety than that ordered will be replaced. We do require payment for shipping and handling on all replacements. We are not liable for more than what was paid originally for the trees, and reserve the right to make substitution if the variety in question is not available. Sorry no refunds.
