Continue ShoppingThe Royal Medlar tree has a more compact growth than most medlar and will not grow too high, it is a very old variety from from England. The Royal Medlar is excellent quality with late ripening fruit. The Royal medlar has a sweet creamy flesh distinctly flavored with a pleasant acidity. Medlar fruits are a curious delicacy, popular in medieval times but today not widely grown. Picked in autumn when still unripe, hard and bitter, the small golden-brown fruits must be stored for several weeks to ripen (or blet) until they are dark brown, soft, sweet and aromatic. Medlar fruits are very rarely available to buy, although you may sometimes find medlar jelly, so the best way to enjoy these unusual fruits is to grow your own. Medlars have at least a thousand year long cultivation history over a wide region stretching from Iran to England. Please refer below for more information on the organically grown Royal Medlar trees for sale.
