The Chisel Jersey cider apple trees produce green bittersweet apples with red flush. Recognized widely in Somerset England, in the early 1900's, as premier producer of bittersweet apples. Cider produced from the Chisel Jersey apples are full bodied with a bold flavor and aroma. The old Germanic inhabitants of England refer chesil meaning pebble, hence "Chisel" Jersey which is a small dense apple. Tends towards an upright growth habit. Helpful to spread limbs when young.
