The Passé Crassane pear originated in Rouen, France, around 1845, developed by Louis Boisbunel. It became a popular winter pear, known for its ability to be stored for several months after harvest. Considered the finest winter pear of Europe. The pear was initially popular in France and later spread to other European countries like Italy, Spain, Germany, and England. Passé Crassane pears are large, round to oval, and often have an irregular or slightly lumpy appearance. They have a greenish-yellow skin, sometimes with a russeted, reddish hue, and a thick, smooth skin. The flesh is white to ivory, slightly coarse, and grainy, becoming softer and juicier when ripe.
